About the production
Sheridan’s comedy, adapted by Robert Tremayne, follows a London society in which malicious prattlers trade gossip like gamblers and ruin reputations for sport. In the School for Scandal, no one is safe.
After sixteen years abroad, Sir Oliver Surface returns home incognito to test the characters of his nephews, Charles and Joseph. He discovers that his old friend Peter Teazle has wed a young country wife and is in marital purgatory, surrounded by rumour-mongers and devilish double-dealers.
