Robert Tremayne (Founder/Artistic Director)
Robert Tremayne is a British actor, director, playwright, and the Founder and Artistic Director of Dionysus Theatre. With a flair for both classical and contemporary storytelling, Robert has built a bold and eclectic portfolio across traditional stage, immersive theatre, and international touring productions.
His recent stage credits include Count Fosco in The Woman in White (2024 UK Tour), described by Theatre South East as “a delight” and “flamboyant, beguiling”; Constantin in La Mouette, his own 1920s-set adaptation of The Seagull; and dual comic turns as Lady Sneerwell and Trip in School for Scandal (2022). Other notable roles include Alan Turing in Breaking the Code, Duke Orsino and Sir Toby Belch in Twelfth Night, John Forrester in The Rats, and Luke Sanderson in The Haunting of Hill House.
He has also toured the UK and Italy as composer Gaetano Donizetti in The Maestro, earning praise for a performance of emotional depth and historical sensitivity. In the immersive theatre world, Robert has played a wide array of characters—from Walter von James in Wine Escape to Count Dracula, the Mad Hatter, and Mad King George with Extraordinary Experiences.
As a director, Robert’s work includes La Mouette (2024), The Seagull (2021), The Taxidermist’s Daughter (winner of Best Overall Production at the BHAC Awards), and A Christmas Carol for both Dionysus Theatre and Ditchling Players. He has also directed award-winning musicals such as Kipps and Our House (WMTC, NODA Award for Excellence).
A graduate of Northbrook Metropolitan College and a proud member of Equity, Robert is dedicated to reimagining classical works for modern audiences. His adaptations have been staged at venues including the Drayton Arms Theatre, Chichester Fringe, and Guildford Fringe, and his work continues to champion bold, accessible theatre across the UK.
David Upcraft (Executive Director)
David Upcraft is a British actor and singer based on the Sussex Coast. A graduate of the University of Chichester’s Performing Arts program, David has cultivated a diverse career spanning theatre, film, audio, and immersive performance.
His recent stage roles include Victor Prynne in Private Lives and Walter Hartright in The Woman in White with Dionysus Theatre. Other notable performances encompass Santa in The Santa Show, the Ghost of Christmas Present in A Christmas Carol: The Concert, and a member of the Swing Ensemble in The Commitments. David has also toured extensively with the street theatre company Bootworks and co-founded Desperate Measures Theatre, producing and performing original comedy productions across the UK.
In addition to his stage work, David appeared in the film Promenade and lent his voice to the audiobook The Angel’s Return.

Lauren trained at the London College of Music, graduating with a Masters in Musical Theatre.

Matthew graduated from Northbrook College with a BA in Theatre Arts specialising in Production Management, Lighting Design and Stage Management. Matthew is Head of Techncial and Production for Worthing Theatres and Museum and working alongside the technical team looks after all the technical needs for the 4 venues in Worthing.
Matthew works as a freelance lighting designer and has worked with a number of companies in the Worthing area. best known for his work on the Big Finish Dr Who, Blake’s 7 and B7 Media Dan Dare audio adventures, which more than one reviewer described as ‘cinematic’. More recently he did the sound design for various B7 Media audio dramas, including BBC Radio 4 Drama’s courtroom drama Barred and for Audible Originals the psychological sci-fi thriller The Effect.
Alistair is also an accomplished composer and has provided scores for Big Finish’s Blake's 7, Sapphire & Steel, Doctor Who and Bennie Summerfield audio adventures. He recently completed another Blake’s 7 adventure playing both ORAC the super computer and an obsessive medical computer, “Matron”. He recently completed a short film “Ostrich Suit” which has been submitted to a number of domestic and international festivals.

Trained at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts and spent the next few years as the singer/songwriter of an indie band. Gained a BA Hons in English in her spare time and moved into journalism, working for various magazines and newspapers. Returned to performing in 2012, to play Little Voice in The Rise & Fall of Little Voice. Stage credits since include musical Damn Yankees (Jack Studio), John Bucchino’s song cycle It’s Only Life (Brighton Fringe), Pericles and The Merchant of Venice (Cambridge Shakespeare Festival), new writing pieces Clean (Bread & Roses) and Gazing at a Distant Star (Greenwich Theatre/Edinburgh Festival), Rattigan’s Separate Tables (SET, Cannes), and most recently Yasmina Reza’s God of Carnage (Brighton Fringe).

Syd in ‘Hangmen’. No stranger to Martin McDonagh plays, he has directed ‘A Skull in Connemara’, ‘The Lieutenant of Inishmore’, ‘The Pillowman’, directing the latter at the Archway Theatre and by playing Michal in a BLT production.
Other credits include Christian in ‘Festen’ at the NVT, Treves in ‘The Elephant Man’, John in ‘Blue Remembered Hills’ and Algernon in ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’. As well as performing in Shakespeare plays such as ‘Julius Caesar’, ‘The Paper Crown’ and outdoor productions of ‘As you like it’, playing Jacques; he also portrayed the playwright in a new play ‘The Equivocateurs’ at the Progress Theatre in Reading.
Kelly Verstappen

Kelly is a versatile performer with a rich background in theatre production, costume design, prop fabrication, and creative programming. Her early career saw her working behind the scenes, while occasionally appearing on stage at Glastonbury and taking day player roles on Japanese television.
In recent years, Kelly has refocused her talents on acting, making a dynamic transition to the stage. Her recent performances include Cassie Pine in The Taxidermist’s Daughter, Julie in Sheila’s Island, and Madame Defarge in A Tale of Two Cities, all with Southwick Players.

An Irish actor who graduated in 2022 from the University of Limerick with a degree in Contemporary Applied Drama and Theatre Studies & New Media and Cultural Studies. He now currently resides in Brighton. He has been involved in the theatre scene since he was 17. He’s starred in short films and local theatre productions in Limerick. He has also spent the last two summers
working at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as a venue crew member. For Brighton Little Theatre Company production, Tom’s Midnight Garden, for their Christmas season, playing Barty and Pincher the dog, as well as ensemble. He also performed a
monologue in association with Tríada Theatre Company and Tanglehead Productions in their stage production, Men Talking. A series of performances regarding men’s mental health.

Elizabeth trained at East 15 Acting School. Credits include; Yellow Wallpaper, by Charlotte Gilman. A play was about a woman kept in an attic in the 19th Century and explored how isolation affects mental health. It was screened on Youtube Autumn 2020.
Before this, she had great fun performing many roles in Horrible Mysteries and Jack the Ripper at Phileas Fogg’s World of Adventures.
